Congratulation to J & J Angus of IA for the purchasing 2/3 interest and full possession of the $9,500.00. This outstanding GKAF Rito 837 son was declared by many as one of the top bulls offered in the 2002 Midland Bull Test sale. Thank you also to all of the contending bidders on this bull. There certainly was a lot of interest in this young herd sire.
The calves out of "Rito Pride 101" have commanded a lot of attention. They are light birth weight calves out of both cows and heifers. They have the same characteristics as their sire with light birth weight and then they really pop with thickness and growth. This bull is recommended for use on heifers.
4 out of the 5 years of EAGA Bull Sales, TO 837 Rito Pride 101 has put sons in the Elite Plus category. He is the only sire that has put back to back Elite Plus bulls in our EAGA Bull Sale. That is a pretty hard thing to do in our development center. And even more amazing is this bull is doing it from a small cow herd. The owners of this bull have only 8 to 10 "Rito Pride 101" bull calves to pick from each year and the Elite Plus bulls are out of different cows each year. The only reason he has not had 5 for 5 is one sale a son of "Rito Pride 101" had a 35 1/2 scrotal instead of 36.
Some of you may say what is an Elite Plus EAGA Bull? Well, here it is:
* Have an ADG ratio of 103 or greater against the entire group of bulls
* Have a %IMF of 4% or greater
* Have a URE of 13.5 sq. inches or greater
* Have a 36 cm scrotal measurement or greater
This is not easy to do when they are developed on our high roughage diet and this bull is getting the job done with the few calves that he is siring. He does not have 300 head of cows to select his calves from, he has 20 or less that he is bred to. The few "Rito Pride 101" daughters in production are really doing a good job for the Juhl's. That is why we have decided to use this son of GKAF Rito 837, because of the daughters he is making and the job they are doing in their environment.
TO 837 Rito Pride 101 (that the Juhl's call Bubba) is pictured out in the Juhl's pasture for you to see. He does not have an abundance of feed resources in front of him but he sure stays in tremendous condition. I will agree, he does not have a 100 cows to follow after but he is not in belly deep grass either.
As Jeff also pointed out that his EPD's do not show what this bull is doing as he has not seen wide use nor been put up against a bunch of different AI sires in the Juhl herd but in the EAGA development center it is not hard to see what he is passing on to his offspring and from different cows in Jeff's herd. It is just too bad he does not get to ratio against all the other bulls in this development center. He would do very well in performance and ultra sound measurements.
Individual performance of TO 837 Rito Pride 101: Birth Weight 80 lbs,
BWR 95. Adjusted 205-day Weight 746 lbs (no creep) WR 111. Adjusted Yearling
Weight 1280 YR 114. Here is a picture perfect structured bull that is deep,
thick, moderate framed, that has excellent performance. He weighed
1415 pounds on February 13, 2002 on Midland's high roughage diet. His off test
weight was 1500 pounds on March 15, 2002 and had
an average daily gain of 3.67 lbs., with a gain ratio of 111. His
ultrasound information is: Actual %IMF 3.90; Adj. %IMF 3.70; Actual REA 13.30;
Adj. REA 12.60. The breed average in 2002 was: %IMF 3.49; REA
12.07.
His sire GKAF Rito 837 owned with Krauth Angus Farm, Prescott, IA, is without a
doubt one of the stoutest, thickest, and deepest made VDAR Rito 953 sons ever. The popularity of "Rito
837" is caused by the producers who have his sons and daughters in
production. Semen on GKAF Rito 837 is no longer offered by the owners, he is
used for in herd use only. You can read
more about him in the other Twin Oaks Angus Herd Sires.
The dam of TO 837 Rito Pride 101 is VDAR Pride 3171. She is a treasure in
our herd and is a direct daughter of VDAR Pride 333, who is without a doubt one
of the top Pride cows that ever walked in the Van Dyke pastures or their donor
pen. There is a standing order for females from "Pride 3171" from
several top cattlemen.
Don't miss this opportunity to purchase semen on this excellent herd sire and save every daughter he sires. He is one of those rare made bulls that has easy fleshing traits that sires maternal, muscle, and carcass. He would be an excellent choice to put on the high carcass sired females to put excellent fertility, strong maternal traits, depth, muscle, and fleshing ability back into the cross without loosing any carcass values.
